Businesses are suffering? Im suffering. Does that give me the right to break the law?

Businesses that break the law to break even need to go out of business. And if breaking the law for a long period of time makes it legal, can argue in court that my felony charge of dope selling be forgiven because I have been selling dope for so long?

And just how hard would it be for 1000 Al-Qaeda to just walk across the border and set up shop in your state? They would be self-supporting in California, with its illegal hiring of undocumented workers. They could even self-arm.

Why does your article show a photo of legal immigrants when it is about illegal immigration? Is it only natural that capitalist magazines such as the WSJ try to cloud such differences, and propose sacrificing law and nation for the sole motive of profiting from cheap labor?

My family legally emigrated from China, after years of paperwork. This country generously provided us a legal method of entry and citizenship, a path that is open to all, and that admits more immigrants than any other on Earth.

If I were a terrorist commander, I would know that I could bring hundreds of militants into this country illegally with no problem or need of outside supply, and that we could self-arm. Why does such infrastructure enabling this scenario even exist in these times of ‘war on terror’? Are we simply waiting for them to figure out this fact?

You seem also to be of the opinion that the length of time someone breaks the laws of this country somehow should factor into an equation of innocence. What lay people think of law and order is immaterial, for such slippery slope implies that if I get away with a crime long enough Im legal. May I argue in court that I have been selling dope, stealing, raping, or whatever long enough to warrant legality?

In the face of available and legal paths to citizenship, many elect instead to break the law. Children and families suffer, yes, just as those of American citizens suffer when their parents decide to break the law.

As for the American Indians, what happened to them is what happens when you do not protect your sovereignty and regulate immigration. Every sovereign nation on Earth, including those of Latin America, enforces its immigration laws. Ours are simply more open and admitting, and we do not need to be giving away citizenship to people who decide to circumvent them.

The definition of an American citizen is far more than what you seem to think it is, which to you is apparently any human being simply willing to work for a buck.

The USA is the only country I know of where it is possible to insert a 10000 man militant army without need of supply lines or other external support, an army that could self-support and self-arm through illegal employment of its members, and mobilize when the word came down.

DHS / ICE needs to take that infrastructure down.

The USA is a competent terrorist commander's dream.

BTW, if those businesses need to break the law to break even, they need to be in a different business, or else Im going to start selling dope to help pay my bills.

Your argument misses some important facts.

H.R. 4088 provides for the discrepancies and mismatches that you note exist in the federal databases, and provides for their correction in section 202.a and 202.b of the bill, in addition to providing for a phase-in over a 4-year span (Sec. 201), under Title-II.

Secondly, SSA would not be involved in enforcement, only identification and notification (Sec. 202.c.2). Enforcement falls under sections 301 (Title-III) and 5202 (Title-I), and provides additional resources to existing enforcement agencies tasked with such duties.

Thank you for contacting me expressing your opposition to H.R. 4088, the "Secure America Through Verification and Enforcement (SAVE) Act of 2007." I too share many of your concerns about this bill.

As you may know, the bill would authorize new funding for technology and manpower to secure the borders. It would also expand internal enforcement of immigration laws. The bill would mandate that all employers in the U.S. use the electronic verification system, known as either the Basic Pilot Program (BPP) or E-Verify, of Social Security Numbers (SSN).

The use of the electronic verification system has some serious problems. The Social Security Administration (SSA) would have to shift significant resources from managing benefits to enforcing immigration. Also, according to SSA, the database used for E-Verify has high error rates. About 17.8 million records contain errors related to name, date of birth, or citizenship status, and 12.7 million of those records relate to U.S. citizens. This rate of error in the SSA database alone could translate into 2.5 million people a year being misidentified as unauthorized for employment. While I support vigorous workplace enforcement, such a situation could lead to large number of U.S. citizens, who undoubtedly have a right to work, from reaching gainful employment.

Currently, the bill is before the House Committee on Homeland Security. A discharge petition has also been filed. I generally do not support moving such a major piece of legislation in this manner. Furthermore, the fact that the bill does nothing to address the matter of immigration reform, and fails to recognize the no-match problem, is cause for further concern and the use of the regular committee process.

H.R. 4088 directly addresses the security and sovereignty of the United States,
and would efficiently identify persons engaged in illegal employment, identity theft, and unlawful presence in the United States, among other benefits.

The current resistance in Congress to the bill stems from its impact on members’ reelection concerns, a selfish concern considering it is their duty to put personal gain aside for the benefit of the country. These individuals attempt to smoke screen the bill by pointing out flaws in the federal databases that would be used to carry out the bill.

H.R. 4088 provides for discrepancies and mismatches in the federal databases, and provides for their correction in sections 202.a and 202.b of the bill, in addition to providing for a phase-in over a 4-year span (Sec. 201), under Title-II.

As for humanitarian concerns, there are penalties for breaking a nation's laws, any nations. These penalties apply to citizens and non-citizens alike. Prisons are full people who decided to break the law, and their families suffer the consequences of their personal decision to do so.
